Since 2002, I have been employed as the Personal Chef to The Lord Kirkham cvo and his family, based in South Yorkshire. This role requires me to be very adaptable and flexible as the parameters change regularly. As well as cooking for the family on a day to day basis, I am responsible for all the private luncheon, dinner and overnight parties held. I work in several locations, including a large villa in the south of France. Working by myself, and cooking for up to 20 people requires me to be extremely well organised and pro-active particularly when working abroad for long periods, sometimes at short notice. The biggest advantage of my job is being able to use produce from our 3 acre walled kitchen garden. Working closely with a dedicated team of six gardeners enables me to make the most of a massive choice of fruit, vegetables and herbs as well as honey, quail and chicken eggs and livestock. As well as cooking, I am also writing a book, due to be published privately soon, depicting contemporary recipes inspired by the kitchen garden. I am also involved in the designing and implementation of new kitchens both here and abroad, and in the production of Christmas hampers and other food products for gifts. Winning the Roux Scholarship in 1998 has proved invaluable throughout my career. The 3 month training period I took in Paris gave me so much enthusiasm, discipline and understanding of working at a consistently high level. I regularly call on my experiences during my winning year throughout my everyday work. Being a Roux Scholar was of particular relevance to me when I began my current job as my employer has close ties with the Roux Brothers and therefore had a good understanding of what winning the Scholarship was about .
