It is impossible to underestimate the influence brothers Michel and Albert Roux have had on the British hospitality industry. They established two of the country’s best restaurants, Le Gavroche and The Waterside Inn, each winning three Michelin stars by 1985. Through their inspiring leadership, those kitchens launched the careers of some of the United Kingdom’s best chefs, who in turn have influenced further generations of extraordinarily talented chefs. Since launching The Roux Scholarship in 1983, hundreds more have gained from the experience of competing, while the winners have had the opportunity to work in the world’s best restaurants, bringing new skills and new knowledge back to the kitchens of British restaurants. The result is that the United Kingdom now has a deserved place on the global culinary stage.
