Twenty scholars delighted guests with a special six course menu inspired by their michelin mentors. Over £80,000 was raised for charity as a result of some wonderful prizes, generous donations and the fantastic support of our ‘MC’ for the evening James Martin and auctioneer Lord Jeffrey Archer.
“Thanks to everyone for supporting the gala dinner it was a unique occasion! What a family…my scholars made me very proud,” said Michel Roux.
To celebrate the overwhelming success of the 30th Anniversary of the Roux Scholarship this year, a special Gala Dinner and Auction has been organised to take place in the sumptuous surroundings of The Ballroom, Mandarin Oriental Hotel, Hyde Park on Monday 21st October 2013.
We have an exciting evening planned with James Martin the Master of Ceremonies for the evening and Lord Jeffrey Archer, the Auctioneer.
The unique five course dinner will be created and prepared by Roux scholars who will work in teams to prepare each dish. These will be especially created by the scholars but inspired by the three star Michelin chefs with whom they took their professional training after winning the Scholarship. The scholar team leaders will be:
- Andrew Fairlie, the very first Roux Scholar (1984 – Michel Guérard – Les Prés
- Sat Bains (1999 – Jacques and Laurent Pourcel – Le Jardin des Sens)
- André Garrett, MCA (2002 – Guy Savoy)
- Mark Birchall (2011 – Roca brothers – El Celler de Can Roca)
- Steve Drake (2001 – Marc Veyrat – L’Auberge de L’Eridan)
- Adam Smith (2012 – Yanick Alléno Le Meurice)
A fine selection of Premier Cru and Grand Cru wines will complement each course.
The dinner will be followed by an exceptional auction. The unique lots will include an exclusive Saturday Kitchen experience with James Martin, a ten-day five-star Dubai hotel break including dinner with Gary and Jenny Rhodes and a wonderful array of other exclusive experiences and prizes.
Proceeds will be shared equally between The Roux Scholarship and The Daniel Discretionary Trust. David Nicholls founded this Trust to support his son, Daniel following an accident in December 2003 which left him paralysed. David is a Scholarship judge and International Group Director of Food and Beverage for the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group. He has given outstanding support to the Scholarship over many years.
